FLURSTÜCKE FESTIVAL
27.6.–30.6.2024
Transform the city, poetically, wildly, loudly and quietly – that is the goal we, the curators have set ourselves for the fourth edition of Flurstücke. Our jointly created programme of 54 performances invites 12 ensembles from six countries to Münster; 120 artists will inspire and stimulate the urban space with theatre and dance,
performance and art for four days.
The theme of FLURSTÜCKE 2024 is “touch”. The festival brings people into contact with performances that, in their own way, arouse emotions and appeal to the senses – as always, free of charge and easily accessible.
FLURSTÜCKE is a festival that doesn’t exclude anyone and enables community experiences that are needed more than ever in times of growing divisions and hardened fronts.
The FLURSTÜCKE festival centre is located in the SpecOps network – a cultural café in Aegidiimarkt 5 in the Münster city centre; a meeting place with an information point, musical performances and an exhibition about all the artists and groups involved. This is also the starting point for festival tours on Friday and Saturday, where festival-goers can learn more about the projects by visiting the venues and speaking with the artists. On Saturday evening from 11 pm the big festival party will take place with DJ Maarten Van Cauwenberghe in Theater im Pumpenhaus. On Sunday at 12:30 pm the German Association for Theatre in Public Spaces invites you to an aperitif at the festival centre where you can enjoy a cool drink and a discussion with some of the artists.
Opening hours festival centre:
Tue 25.6. to Sat 29.6. 11 am to open end
Sun 30.6. 11 am to 6 pm
The festival centre is also the starting point for festival tours on friday and saturday, where festival-goers can learn more about the projects by visiting the venues and speaking with the artists. Further information below the program.
FLURSTÜCKE has established itself as a central art event in Münster alongside Skulptur Projekte with its international and extremely diverse program. The new type of festival took place for the first time in 2011 and was an immediate success with 25,000 spectators within three days. The 2015 and 2019 editions were equally well received by the public and the press. Initially focused on the city center, FLURSTÜCKE has long since expanded to the outskirts of Münster - in order to better live up to its claim of being an event for everyone.
The festival not only provides impetus for the city, but also for the entire European public art scene. The artists and groups who come together here network with each other and carry on the spirit of FLURSTÜCKE.
FLURSTÜCKE is a collaborative project. The curators of the festival are four cultural institutions from the city of Münster: The Filmwerkstatt, which has been active for over 40 years as a regional centre for film in Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia and beyond; Theater Titanick, which is one of the most important open-air theatre companies in Europe with its spectacular projects and city productions; Kunsthalle Münster, which has been focusing on current trends and socially relevant topics with exhibitions of contemporary art since it opened in 1991 and Theater im Pumpenhaus, which has been one of the most important production and performance venues for contemporary dance, performances and plays by local and international artists since the 1980s.
New to the curatorial team for this edition are Daniel Huhn as managing director of the Filmwerkstatt Münster and Till Wyler von Ballmoos, artistic director of the Theater im Pumpenhaus and successor to Ludger Schnieder, who died at the beginning of 2023. Ludger was co-initiator and curator of FLURSTÜCKE and was involved in designing the 2024 festival.
